Doctors of Optometry are primary health care professionals who provide full scope, comprehensive eye health and vision care. They examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases and disorders of visual system, the eye and associated structures as well as diagnose related systemic conditions. As fully licensed medical professionals, they are authorized to prescribe medications, treat eye diseases and perform certain surgical procedures.
Optometry and Ophthalmology are both medical professions, and both require a doctorate degree. These two professions only differ in terms of major invasive eye surgery, similarly to how a cardiologist (a primary heart doctor) differs from a heart surgeon, who performs surgery ordered by the cardiologist.
To that end, in today's healthcare world, eye care providers provide full-scope primary eye health and vision care, both preventative and diagnostic / therapeutic, and refer patients to ophthalmologists primarily for eye-related surgical needs only, while continuing collaborative patient care via co-management relationship.
Besides providing exceptional vision - oriented examinations and therapies, the medical eye care services provided by doctors of optometry include medical procedures on the eye, such as foreign body removals, corneal debridement, appellations of eyelashes, a wide array of lid procedures, style removal, punctual occlusions, etc.
As such, our Doctor, Vlada Nakhlis, is fully licensed and eager to provide all the services listed above, along with other "outside the box" vision related preventative and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, such as myopia control/Orthokeratology/binocular vision disorders treatment and specialty contact lens fittings. The staff at Des Paine Eye Care Center volunteer at schools, providing complementary eye exams to underprivileged kids. They give back to the community on a regular basis by volunteering at the Special Olympics, donating time and money to organizations like "Give Sight" and "InfantSee", and are members of the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce. They are proactive at promoting public awareness on the subject of Eye health and vision care by providing educational seminars and presentations to staff, colleagues, patients, schools, retirement/nursing homes for seniors.
Des Paine Eye Care Center provides complete array of eye care services, ranging from preventative comprehensive eye care that includes education on the nutritional effects on eye health, to all sorts of medical eye emergencies. As a member of American Academy of Orthokeratology & Myopia Control (AAOMC), and College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), Dr. Vlada Nakhlis specializes in myopia control management with methods such as OrthoKeratology, atropine therapy, and several refractive options such as Multifocal contact lenses and glasses, and computer glasses for Computer Vision Fatigue Syndrome. Dr. Vlada Nakhlis also focuses heavily on binocular vision disorder diagnosis and treatment for both kids and adults. As well as Specialty Lens fittings for ocular surface diseases that require it such as Keratoconus and Corneal Dystrophies, and over-night wear of Orthokeratology (AKA as CRT) lenses for a complete daytime correction of refractive error, as an alternative to Lasik/PRK surgery which is especially useful for kids.
As a member of American Diabetic Association (ADA), Dr. Vlada Nakhlis set up her office and the entire team in such a way that they pride themselves on providing a very comprehensive Diabetic Eye Disease evaluation, management, and treatment, that includes an in-office Blood glucose level measuring, Blood Pressure measuring, and nutritional/lifestyle education on diet, exercise, supplementation, and smoking cessation counseling, which helps to facilitate you in achieving the highest MIPS scores possible. ***Speaking of MIPS, Des Paine Eye Care Center is fully educated on this program, participates in it full time, and collaborates with all specialist and PCP colleagues on this subject by providing MIPS-appropriate eye exam reports to them in a timely manner.
