Doctors of Optometry, or optometrists, are fully-licensed, primary health care professionals who provide full scope, comprehensive eye health and vision care. These eye doctors examine, diagnose, and treat diseases and disorders of the visual system and associated structures and systemic conditions. Optometrists are authorized to prescribe medications, treat eye diseases and perform certain surgical procedures.
Optometry and Ophthalmology are both medical professions that require doctorate degrees. They differ only in terms of major invasive eye surgery specialization, similar to how a cardiac surgeon performs surgery ordered by the cardiologist.
The fields of Optometry and Ophthalmology in Des Plaines converge at Des Plaines Eye Care Center where our in-house optometrist, Dr. Vlada Nakhlis, provides full-scope, primary eye health and vision care in terms of both prevention and diagnostic needs while referring patients to co-managing, ophthalmologic partners in Des Plaines for eye-related surgical needs.
Proudly representing Optometry in Des Plaines, Dr. Vlada Nakhlis is fully-licensed and eager to provide the aforementioned optical services along with further auxiliary vision-related preventative and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, such as myopia control, Orthokeratology, binocular vision disorders treatment, and specialty contact lens fittings.
Outside of operating Des Plaines Eye Care Center, Dr. Vlada Nakhlis volunteers at schools, providing complementary eye exams to underprivileged children. She also gives back by way of volunteering at the Special Olympics, along with donating time and funds to organizations such as “Give Sight” and “InfantSee”. In an effort to promote public awareness regarding eye health and vision care, Dr. Nakhlis provides educational seminars and presentations to staff, colleagues, patients, schools, and nursing homes.
